The Importance To Your Business Of A Timely Flower Delivery
A timely flower delivery is critical to the floral business. While there are many aspects to the flower shop, fresh flowers is one of the most important. Everything else can go by the wayside if your flowers are not delivered on time.
The first delivery to be concerned with is the one from your supplier. If what you have ordered is late, it can cost you a job and worse. When you order your flowers you expect them to show up at the time agreed upon between you and the supplier. Your bride-to-be will not be understanding if her wedding bouquets are not ready in time for her wedding. Other customers can be just as irritated as the bride, if their arrangements are not on time for their own occasions. It is not like a wedding, funeral or birthday can get a do-over. They are one time events and the floral arrangements must be there. So you must have a supplier that you can depend on for his deliveries to be on time.
Another element you must be concerned with for timely deliveries is your business documentation and how it is filed. When an order is taken, the delivery information must be properly documented. Then the order must be consistently placed in an area for your designers to get it at the proper time. Some customers such as brides or party planners may order their flowers months in advance. You need to make sure that the order for those events is not lost, but made available when it is time for the designer to make the arrangements, so they are ready for the delivery on time.
Other customers will only order days in advance, and they too expect their delivery on time. Again, a system for holding the documentation is what is needed here. Something where on the day in question the paper is brought to the forefront and the arrangements are made in time to be delivered when the customer is looking for them.
The next delivery to calculate into the life span of an arrangement is the delivery to the recipient. Your customers expect you to do this in the time frame requested. This is not always possible but it does the florist good to be there within reason. If a customer wants the design delivered to a restaurant while they are eating dinner, it is not a good idea to show up two hours after they have left. Other events where the time is essential would be weddings, funerals and parties.
With weddings and funerals you will usually have the luxury of delivery being before the event, which can give you some options. Since arrangements are made to last for at least a few days, funeral designs can be delivered the night before for an early service. Wedding pieces can be delivered in the morning as long as they are kept cool until the ceremony later in the day.
Holidays such as Valentines and Mothers Day cause their own problems. Orders will be up, and you still must deliver. This is when you must consider getting holiday drivers, those that only come in to help you get through the holiday. Valentines Day is the worst because all the arrangements must be delivered on one day. On Mothers Day you are given some grace because some of your customers will want their arrangements delivered during the days coming up to the holiday, spreading deliveries out over the week.
As you can see, there are a lot of variables about the flower delivery, starting with your supplier and ending at the home of the recipient. When customers are happy with the delivery being there for their event, they will call again when they need flowers. If their delivery was late for the event, they will go elsewhere. So it is absolutely critical that your flowers be delivered on time.
